Another Fall, Another Class Trip to Sapelo Island

Dr. Sally Walker - Shellebarger Professor of Geology

Dr. Sally provides real life experience for her GEOL 4010 “Life and Ecologies of the Past” students with field work conducted Sapelo Island, GA. The principles of paleobiology course (including biostratigraphy, paleoecology, taphonomy, and macroevolutionary dynamics) have been annually attending the Sapelo Island Trip every fall since the mid 1990’s.

 

Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR)

The 6,100 acres of the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR), located along the western perimeter of Sapelo, is dedicated to research, education, stewardship, and sound management of coastal resources. The Reserve’s outreach and research initiatives focus on the island’s natural ecosystems and the cultural and historical resources of Sapelo Island and the greater Altamaha River estuary.
