Revitalizing Radiometric Geophysics for U.S. Mineral Mapping

Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and the University of Georgia (UGA) Joint Symposium

When: November 13, 2026

Where: Miller Learning Center, UGA Campus

Organizing institutions: Colorado School of Mines and The university of Georgia

Organizers: Mengli Zhang, Yaoguo Li, and Jessica Weihermann

The Radiometric Geophysics Symposium, jointly organized by the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and the University of Georgia (UGA), will bring together experts from academia, government, and industry to revitalize the use of radiometric geophysics for mineral mapping and exploration in the United States. As the first U.S. symposium dedicated to radiometric geophysics in approximately four decades, this one-day event will provide a forum to discuss recent advances, emerging technologies, and the future role of radiometric geophysics in U.S. critical mineral mapping. The program will feature two expert panel discussions, interspersed with short course presentations on the latest R&D advances and applications, and followed by a campus tour. Through this joint CSM–UGA effort, the symposium aims to strengthen collaboration, expand technical capacity, and stimulate renewed innovation and application of radiometric geophysics in support of U.S. mineral-resource exploration and characterization.
